A day for big numbers in Dublin! We were surprised to see 101
Red-breasted Mergansers together at Swords this morning. 70 Little
Grebes at Knock Lake with 6 Buzzards soaring overhead. ( No
sign of the Ruddy Duck today). On the Bull there were over 2000
Redshank, 51 Little Egrets near the Causeway and 28 Little
Egrets at Baldoyle. LB HQ

Dublin birders had a rich and wonderful day today with 1
Semi-palmated Sandpiper at Rogerstown, 12 Curlew Sandpipers,
1 Spotted Redshank. PK There were 12 Brent Geese also
present , 4 adult and 8 juveniles. Two Buzzards were also seen at Rog yesterday and
a Wheatear was one of five seen on the Bull near the Wooden Bridge .JF 2 Mediterranean Gulls at

On the Bull Island early this morning iWEBs volunteers counted 3,400
Redshank, 59 Greenshank and 98 Little Egrets and 26 Brent
Geese. 2 Siskins and a large Sparrowhawk flew over
St Anne's Park . DO'M Chifchaff singing for 5 minutes on the Navan
Road this morning. First sunshine since April must have confused it! DMc

We heard that the seabirds were again to be seen around Skerries this
morning but the wind had changed this afternoon and a 2 hour seawatch
proved fruitless. LB,GF, JF. There was one Ruff at Rogerstown. LB

Tern, 1 Sooty Shearwater seen offshore. ( between 5.50
and 8.20 pm) AK Earlier today off Skerries there were 2 Sabines
Gulls, 2 Great Shearwaters, 2 Balearic Shearwaters, 43
Arctic Skuas, 4 Pomarine Skuas, 6 Bonxies, 1 Little Gull and 1 Long-
tailed Skua. ED There may be more
tomorrow. Drop everything and go seawatching!!!

On the Bull Island there were Teal (30+), Widgeon(100+) and
Shoveler(12-14) , more arriving every day. Quite a few Grey Plover
dotted around in fabulous summer plumage. 1 solitary Golden Plover
at Causeway. Still only 4 Brent which can be seen at low tide on the mud near the landward end of the wooden bridge, below "Bay Restaurant".

1 Terns: c. 400 with about 40 Roseates. At Swords 1 Kingfisher
under the bridge Ruff: 4 Spotted Redshank: 1 Med Gull: 1 - 1st winter
see Erics photo below. Swifts seem to have departed. Last seen in
Bray on 26 August. OM Any later sightings would be of
interest.

( ??) Terns on Sandymount Strand. SMcA 10 Little Egrets roosting in Booterstown Marsh.
There appears to be a significant influx from S. Britain/Europe, as numbers in Ireland this autumn seem higher than the breeding population could account for -- unless they've had a bumper year in spite of the awful weather.OM
