I spied a lovely Buzzard on a tree on the N3 near the
Blanchardstown Centre to day.MH

Today over the old racecourse in Baldoyle, 8 Buzzards
rising and circling together before dispersing, also 2 Sparrowhawks,
1 Kestral. On the Baldoyle estuary and mud flats over the
past couple of days, 20+Curlew, 2 Little Terns, 6 Sandwich
Terns, 1 Common Gull, 20+ Lapwings, 1 Grey
Plover. Lots of Godwits and Redshank.EK

Total of 12,317 waterbirds of 34 species counted in Dundalk
Bay between Castletown River Estuary and Dunany Point. Main
species were 4,131 Oystercatchers, 2,956 Black-headed
Gulls, 903 Black-tailed Godwits, 880 Bar-tailed
Godwits, 703 Redshanks, 642 Knot, 481 Mallard,
388 Herring Gulls, 294 Red-breasted Merganser, 263 Curlews.
Also 2 Ruffs between Old Town Bridge and Tain Bridge at
Dundalk.OM

Total of 4,735 terns came in to roost at dusk at Booterstown
(mainly Common Terns).OM
Raheny: Female Sparrowhawk landed in garden
today. It seems to have injured its right leg however and
was hopping around a bit. It flew perfectly well but the leg was
hanging as it flew over my head. I saw it again this evening
circling above, still with the leg hanging but not as badly.DNíM

The tern colony on the mooring dolphins in Dublin Port had
a bumper season this year. A total of 537 pairs nested on the
platforms, and by the end of the breeding season a total of 765
chicks had been ringed (716 Common and 49 Arctic Terns).

The flock of Mediterranean Gulls at Sandycove reached
exactly 100 birds today, 18 of which were juveniles (i.e. hatched
this summer). So far 15 colour-banded birds have been recorded,
coming from S. England, NW Germany, The Netherland, Belgium, N.
and W. France and Hungary. OM
